Amu Urhonen is the new chairperson of The Association For Culture on Equal Terms

Amu Urhonen was chosen as the new chairperson of The Association For Culture on Equal Terms (Culture for All Service) at the annual general meeting on 18 May.
Amu Urhonen is a Finnish human rights activist, who has over 20 years’ experience on chairing different associations. She works at the moment as an expert at the research project ‘Doing Disability Activism’ (in Finnish Vammaisaktivismia tekemässä. Teoissa ja kerronnassa muotoutuva suomalainen vammaisliike) and she is also the chair of Abilis Foundation. Urhonen has also been the chairperson of the Threshold Association, which is a human rights association of people with disabilities. She has worked as an expert of the student health care of Universities of Applied Sciences, Disability and Accessibility Ombudsman of Tampere City, project manager of ther project Vammaisuuden vaiettu historia (’The silenced history of disability’) and recently as the Disability Inclusion Officer of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
– This post as a chair is a great honour. I appreciate very much my predecessors, their shoes feel big to fill. I am looking forward to working with skillful professionals for an important cause. I can give the association my broad competence and experience of administration in associations and influencing work and of course my very strong motivation to promote the aims of the association, says Urhonen.
The general annual meeting chose as the members of board and their vice members for a two-year-period: Karvinen, TINFO Theatre Info Finland (vice member Riikka Rajala, Finnish Library Association); Anna Dantchev, Finnish Musicians’ Union (vice member Sari Löytynoja, Finnish Musicians’ Union); Sanni Purhonen, Kulttuuriyhdistys Suomen Eucrea ry (vice member Jasmin Riihiniemi, Kulttuuriyhdistys Suomen Eucrea ry) and Barbro Enckell-Grimm, The Finnish Reading Center (vice member Ulla Arkoma, The Finnish Reading Center).
Veronica Hertzberg, Föreningen Luckan rf (vice member will be chosen later, Föreningen Luckan rf); Roger Renman, The Finnish Association of Adult Education Centres (KoL) (vice member Viljami Wiirilinna, The Finnish Association of Adult Education Centres (KoL)) and Yvapurü Samaniego Bonnin, Globe Art Point ry (vice member Jaana Simula, Globe Art Point ry) will continue in the board.
