Project grants for illustrators, deadline 30th April
The Finnish Illustration Association Kuvittajat ry is giving out 130 000 as project grants this spring from copyright royalties. The application deadline is 30.4.2021 and the instructions are also published in English: Project grant instructions in English (PDF).
The grants are open for all illustration professionals, also part-time. The grants are meant for working, not for expenses.
"The grants of the Finnish Illustration Association have always been available to all professional illustrators, regardless of their background. This year, we want to promote diversity not only in words, but also in actions, and we hope to see a wide range of diverse grant applications, especially from illustrators who belong to an underrepresented group in the field of illustration or in society, for instance due to their background, personal attributes or the genre of illustration they represent."
Kuvittajat ry (Association of Illustrators) wants to make their grants more accessible so that applications show the whole diverse spectrum of the illustration field. Chairperson, illustrator Maija Hurme:
"Kuvittajat ry's grants have always been available for all Finns, professional illustrators. Applicant's language, background, or other characteristics have never been an obstacle to apply.
So everything is fine - or is it? Why hasn't the whole spectrum of the field and creators been visible in the applications? Are there any barriers to apply? Do some potential applicants feel like these grants are not for them?" (free translation from Finnish)
