New board of Yhdenvertaisen kulttuurin puolesta ry
The annual general meeting of Yhdenvertaisen kulttuurin puolesta ry (For culture on equal terms) was held on 28th May. The annual meeting chose a new board for the association.
Our new chairperson is Mertsi Lindgren, who is an artist, musician, and Roma culture expert. Lindgren's artistic identity comes from music: he has been performing since he was six years old. Lindgren is a singer and plays guitar, he is also an orchestra leader and has been producing musical and cultural productions. Lindgren has a lot of experience in intercultural dialogue and especially about Roma culture. He has been a Roma language teacher for five years in Helsinki city schools and part of his duties was to consult school staff about Roma culture. When Lindgren was working in the city of Vantaa as a cultural instructor, one of his duties was to explore the possibilities to build up a Roma culture center in Vantaa. During that time he also wrote an application for the university almanac office for getting Roma national day (8th April) marked in Finnish almanac. The day was approved in almanac 2014. Last four years Lindgren has worked as a regional artist and arts development manager in Arts Promotion Centre Finland, specializing in cultural diversity.
New members of the board are Johanna Mattila, (Kulttuuriyhdistys Suomen Eucrea ry), Mikko Karvinen (Theatre Info Finland - TiINFO), and Saara Oranen (The Finnish Reading Center).
Elin Sundell (Luckan rf, vice member Anna Keto), Sepideh Rahaa (Globe Art Point ry), Tuuli Rajavuori (Finnish Museums Association) and Roger Renman (The Finnish Association of Adult Education Centres, vice member Viljami Wiirilinna) continue in the board.
New vice members of the board are Sanni Purhonen, (Kulttuuriyhdistys Suomen Eucrea ry) and Jaana Simula, (Globe Art Point ry).
