The Role of Culture in a Sustainable Society, seminar 23rd September

The programme for the cultural political seminar The Role of Culture in a Sustainable Society — Sustainability in Cultural and Artistic Projects is ready.

Time and place

The seminar will take place on Wednesday 23th of September 2015, 1 pm — 5 pm in the Ting Hall at Nordic Culture Point, Kaisaniemenkatu 9 in Helsinki, Finland. Register here

Programme

We are pleased to have assembled a versatile and exciting programme with speakers and examples of inspiring projects from all over the Nordic region:

  • Katriina Soini (FI), postdoc researcher, Cultural Policy, University of Jyväskylä. Topic: Introduction to culture and sustainability
  • Angela Goldin (NO), director, The International Museum of Children's Art. Topic: How does art projects for, with and by children contribute to a sustainable society?
  • Ola Jacobson (SE), chairperson for the Culture and Art Programme and strategist and responsible for international affairs for Culture Skåne. Will comment on Angela Goldins´ presentation
  • Casper Hernández Cordes (DK), composer, Fonografit and Building Sound Collectives. Topic: Sustainable support and culture and art as a driver for cultural sustainability + artistic intervention about sustainable collectives through sound and movement
  • Kenneth Flak (NO), chairperson for Mobility Funding and choreographer and dancer at Roosna & Flak. Will comment on Casper Hernández Cordes´ presentation and intervention
  • Ulrika Lind (AX), freelance culture and art strategist

Moderator of the seminar

The purpose of the seminar is primarily to encourage cultural actors and artists to work with sustainability in cultural and artistic projects. In addition, together with the presenters, we will discuss whether culture and art is valuable in itself for a sustainable society — as well as the role of culture and art in the sustainability discussion.

Target audience

The target audience of the seminar is in particular artists and cultural actors, but culture scientists, politicians, civil servants and others who are interested are also very welcome.

Culture and Sustainability

Culture and Sustainability is a topical theme in the Nordic Council of Ministers´ strategy of 2013-2020 and also part of Nordic Culture Point's new vision: "We promote a sustainable Nordic region through a strong cultural cooperation"
