
Sámi Contemporary - Seminar
The seminar is on 6th march at 11-16 at Korundi, Rovaniemi. Seminar will set its focus on northern, circumpolar and Sámi issues. The seminar gives a chance to meet the artists and take the floor.
The seminar is in English and it is free of charge.

Hanna Horsberg Hansen: Sami Contemporary Art - Traditions in transition
Hanna Horsberg Hansen works at the Academy of Contemporary Art at the University of Tromsø. She has done research on the connections of frictions which occur in the encounter between contemporary Sami art and history. The lecture "Sami Contemporary Art - Traditions in transition" carries out an exploration of the relations between traditions and contemporaneity based upon empirical examples from Sami contemporary art.

Ailu Valle: Rap-artist from Sapmi
Ailu Valle comes from Utsjoki. He is a musician, who raps in Sami, Finnish and English. Valle gets his inspiration as well from the Lappish nature as from the economical crisis. The themes change from appreciating nature to considering the social situation, often in a philosophical and outspeaking way.

Marita Isobel Solberg: Artistic talk
Marita Isobel Solberg is a performance artist, visual artist and musician. Working across genres and media, Solberg combines objects/sculpture, installation, video or photography with sound, music and performance.

Synnøve Persen, Artistic talk
Synnøve Persen is both a writer and a visual artist. Her large canvases explore and reference a northern landscape of the sea and of light. Persen has also been a central figure in the development of artist organizations, such as Samisk Kunstnerforbund, and the recognition of artist´s rights.

Markku Laakso & Annika Dahlsten: Projects Campfire in a Zoo & Jump in Diorama
The presentation by Annika Dahlsten and Markku Laakso follows the artists on their trip from Lapland via Hamburg to Africa. They make a trip to explore otherness and originality. Their project Campfire in a Zoo is based on a trip Laakso´s great-grandfather made to German zoos in order to be exhibited there as Sámi together with his family.

Liselotte Wajstedt: Jorindas Resa, background
Liselotte Wajstedt is an artist and filmmaker, Wajstedt often engage her hometown Kiruna and her Sámi background in her diverse works. Her filmic works combine animation with filmed footage, exploring or combining various genres such as biographical documentary, music videos or art videos.

Jan-Erik Lundström is acting director of Norrbottens Museum in Luleå and the former director of the Sámi Center for Contemporary Art in Karasjok.
