Your Ciné competition reaches out to the LGBTIQ+ community in 2023, deadline May 31st
What stories and characters are missing from the screens? What would your film be like, Your Ciné?
For the second time, Espoo Ciné is organising an idea competition Your Ciné. It is an initiative for a more diverse cinema and thus, aimed at those whose stories we do not see enough on the big screens. In 2023 we are looking for stories from students and amateurs from the LGBTIQ+ community in the Nordic and Baltic region.
The jury composed of experts from the Finnish Screenwriters Guild will select ten (10) ideas to participate in a workshop which will be held on Thursday and Friday August 17-18, 2023 at Kino Tapiola, Espoo. The event is organised in collaboration with the Finnish Screenwriters Guild and the Finnish Film Directors Guild SELO. At the end of the workshop, one (1) of the ideas will be chosen as the winner which will receive a prize of 2 500 euros. The prize is made possible by Nordisk Film Finland. The selection criteria are the originality of the idea, its feasibility, the dramaturgical structure, and the emotional impact.
In 2022 the winner of the award was Pinja Eskola. Honorary mentions were given to Miska Tuononen and Janina Korkia-Aho. You can read Pinja’s thoughts about the award here: Ajatuksia Sinun Ciné -palkinnosta (this takes you to espoocine.fi)
Send your film idea to Espoo Ciné via this application form by Wednesday May 31, 2023 at 12:00 noon. Participants will cover their own travel and accommodation costs. It is also possible to attend online.
