Welcome to a German-Finnish Talk on 10th October 2023: Poems, Stories and collective storytelling – inclusive literary arts education in Finland

How do people from different age groups and people who learn in different ways experience creative writing in Finland?

First, the head of the Literary Art School of Vantaa, Tiina Åhlgren, explains the basics of the Finnish arts curriculum. In what way is Literary Arts Education part of the national arts education curriculum? Tiina Åhlgren uses examples to show how the lessons work. She describes what participants from different age groups experience at school and what they learn.

Afterwards we will get to know Literary Arts Education in Oulu and hear about the “Enchanted Words – the word art weeks for children and young people” in Oulu. The artistic director of the “Enchanted Words” weeks and head teacher of Literary Arts Education in the Cultural Centre for children and young people of Oulu, Kati Inkala, shows how through the “word art weeks” books and creative writing become visible and tangible for children and young people.

Our discussion questions are this time: How is inclusion seen in literary arts education? What is the position of children’s and young people’s literature and creative writing in society?
