Svenska folkskolans vänner receives a donation of 37 million euros from the Finland-Swedish Association of Blind Schools
Svenska folkskolans vänner (SFV) receives a donation of 37 million euros. The donor is the Svenska blindskolföreningen rf (Finland-Swedish blind school association), which is shutting down its operations.
According to the rules of the association, Svenska blindskolföreningen rf must support Swedish-language education for the blind. Due to the fact that the state and municipalities bear today the responsibility for the education of people with visual impairments, it is no longer possible to fulfill the association's purpose. At the association meeting on January 10, Svenska blindskolföreningen rf therefore decided to dissolve the association and donate the assets to SFV.
The donation will constitute the initial capital of a new fund within SFV. The purpose of the fund is to support Swedish-language teaching and educational activities in Finland, primarily for Swedish-speaking people with visual impairments.
