Dear recipient,
We kindly welcome you to join the Concrete action event co-organised by Kiasma_strike and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma. This event takes place on 16.3.2023 at 10–13 in Forum Box, Helsinki.
Concrete action is directed to all organizations and their teams, as well as collectives, groups, and individual art practitioners who want to ensure that the private funding of art organizations is ethical and sustainable. The event is facilitated by artist Tellervo Kalleinen and curator Giovanna Esposito Yussif. This event will be in English.
After this event, the participants will have a wider understanding on how to further the process, and how to make decisions to develop the ethical guidelines in their own art institutions and organizations.

Background
In February 2023 over 260 people attended the Changing World and the Ethics of Funding seminar at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma to share thoughts on ethical guidelines of fundraising. This event, organized by Kiasma in collaboration with Kiasma_strike, is an important first step in this long term process. Concrete action is a follow up event, devised as a facilitated forum where art professionals in Finland are invited to deepen the discussion and move from good intentions into concrete actions.
Due to decreasing public funding, art institutions and organizations are facing increased pressure to source private funds. Simultaneously, calls for their commitment to social sustainability are more frequent. This has created new urgency for discussing the ethical guidelines of how institutions work. Kiasma_strike, joined by more than 200 art workers in December 2022, has activated a public debate on the private funding of public institutions. During the strike, representatives of several organisations have expressed a need to have a deeper conversation on the topic. Concrete action addresses this need in a constructive yet goal oriented approach. The event challenges the field to update – and in some cases to formulate from scratch – clear stand points and transparent practical processes regarding the ethical guidelines for receiving private funding.
Watching the seminar documentation prior to the event is recommended. The recording includes topical presentations made at the Changing World and the Ethics of Funding seminar organized at the Kiasma Theater by Kiasma and Kiasma_strike (the event was in Finnish, please refer to seminar memo for the key points in English).
