Critical thinking for inclusion in the arts

How do people interact within communities? How do different identities and experiences impact these interactions? What norms and power structures do these interactions maintain?

During this course, we will examine our communities – e.g., workplace, association, hobby group. We will develop skills to:

  • Recognize power dynamics
  • Identify and communicate our own needs
  • Map and consider the needs of those around us
  • Support and co-create principles of engagement in our community
  • Be an ally

We will share different perspectives and experiment with ways to make diverse voices and thoughts more visible. Understanding all the possible identities and ways structures support as well as suppress growth will empower us to move forward together.

We will use methodologies inspired by Power Privilege Wheel, Nonviolent Communication and Sociocracy.

The main language of the workshop is English. Explanations in Finnish can be given and choice of language can be agreed amongst members in small working groups. We encourage one to express themselves in a way that feels most comfortable. We will do our best to support and to understand each other.

Arlene Tucker and Fon Krairiksh will facilitate this six-hour workshop.
