Artist Talk with Isa Hukka on "Making crip art possible", 16.2 on Zoom

What makes crip art possible? And what can crip art make possible? Helsinki-based artist Isa Hukka offers their perspective on this and other related questions in their lecture for Taidekoulu Maa. They talk about interdependence, mutual aid, resources, accessibility, solidarity, crip friendships, isolation, and community, in relation to the contexts they know.

Artist bio

Isa Hukka is a writer, performing artist and student whose own bed is a sacred place for them. They are based in Helsinki, although parts of them belong to Pohjois-Pohjanmaa, Copenhagen, and Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. They study philosophy, currently focusing on crip feminist critiques of identity politics. In addition to participating in crip grassroot organizing and making performances in Helsinki, they have worked with translating, and various magazines have also published their award-winning poetry. In 2022-23 they work as a facilitator in Coming Stage, a performing arts project initiated by Baltic Circle International Theatre Festival.

Accessibility and other information

The lecture takes place on Zoom. Registration is required. More info below.

Language: English. Questions can be presented in English, Finnish or Swedish.

The duration of the event is 1,5 hours, from 10 to 11:30 Helsinki time. It includes more traditional lecturing and also time for questions at the end. There is a 10 minute break at 10:40.

The lecturer will show some slides and images, but it is not needed for participants to look at the screen. Visual descriptions by the lecturer are included in the lecture.

The participants may have their video on or off. All kinds of participation, such as discussing, is voluntary. Please feel free to voice any access needs before and during the lecture!

Unfortunately there is no sign language or other interpretation available.
