Seminar days on gender and musicianship on 24th and 25th January
The highly popular seminar days on gender and musicianship continues. The seminar is organised by University of the Arts Helsinki History Forum, doctoral schools DocMus, MuTri, and research association Suoni. The seminar takes place on 24th and 25th January in English online.
During the seminar days there will be discussed issues regarding gender and music-making, music production, and music research from a wide variety of perspectives. Topics include redefining musicianship, feminist methods and practices, critical perspectives on canons and repertoire as well as gendered practices in music education and gendered discrimination and patriarchal power structures, among many others. The keynote lecture "Is classical music education a ‘conducive context’ for sexual harassment and misconduct?" is given by Dr. Anna Bull of University of York.
The conference is open for everyone interested, and admission is free of charge. The deadline for registrations is January 16, 2022.
