New information on equity of the art and culture field published: ArtsEqual final report and statistics from the audiovisual industry
Art research project ArtsEqual has published a report on equality in arts education and art as a public service.
"People who have the best preconditions to succeed in the art system seek
and are actively selected to be included in arts and art education",
states the ArtsEqual research project report 'Towards equality of art and art
education services'.
According to the report, art professionals mainly target art education for the
talented and art services for those who actively seek them.
"In the art field, the ideal of normalcy includes highly developed senses,
a optimally fitting body structure and fine motor skills. Individuals who
differ from this ideal are seen as inadequate or incompetent, and are thus less
valuable to participate in art or art education", researchers write. For
example, disabled, aged, differently abled learners and those whose bodies or
senses do not match this ideal are often excluded from art and art education
services. Art research project ArtsEqual has published a report on equality in
arts education and art as a public service.
The report can be read here on University of the Arts’ homepage as an accessible PDF in Finnish.
