Kolibrí festival’s 10th edition going on until 26th September in Helsinki, Vantaa and Espoo

Kolibrí Festivaali is an interdisciplinary, multicultural, free and open art festival for the whole family, and it's celebrating its 10th edition this year. From 20.9. to 26.9., Kolibrí promotes creativity and diversity in several workshops, concerts, performances and seminars at Caisa, Pessi, Vernissa, Vuotalo and the libraries at Sello and Tikkurila. Kolibrí is produced by Kulttuurikeskus Ninho.

Kolibrí Festivaali 2021 celebrates “Us”, inspired by the book by the same name (“Nosotros"), written and illustrated by the Chilean author, Paloma Valdivia. “Us” refers to our first universe, the simplest and most important connection we build as humans. “Us” represents the lifelong relationship connecting ourselves to our ancestral origins, to Mother Earth, and to the communities we belong to. In ourselves, we celebrate the small universe that is enlarged to include a broader and more diverse community. Our focus is on cherishing and nourishing ourselves (“Us”) in order to be able to nurture the humanity of the future, in all their seedling universes.

Kolibrí 2021 begun on September 20th, at Tikkurila Library (Vantaa), with two events: the bestowal of books in Spanish by authors of contemporary children's and young people's literature recognized worldwide, a program by Kulttuurikeskus Ninho in cooperation with the Embassies of Uruguay, Chile and Argentina; and the book launch of “My beautiful Pond”, by Wende Luvinga.

The V Biennial Seminar on Bilingualism for Parents: "Plurilingualism: Learning, Identity and Wellbeing", took place at Caisa (Helsinki) on September 21st from 5pm to 7pm, and the II Panel-Discussion: Pushing Limits - Children's Culture and Diversity will happen on September 22nd from 5pm to 7pm, in Vernissa (Vantaa).

On September 23rd at 5pm, in Vuotalo, the opening of the exhibition “NOSOTROS / ME / US / VI / NÓS”, displaying Paloma Valdivia's work, will take place. From 23.9. to 10.10, this exhibition will allow visitors to enjoy a collection of illustrations from Valdivia’s latest children’s books, as well as other works related to the exhibit’s theme – showcasing basic human concepts such as family, motherhood, identity and community.

Workshops, performances and concerts will take place at Sello Library (Espoo) on the 24th September from 2pm to 5pm, Vuotalo (Helsinki) on the 25th from 11 am to 5pm and Pessi and Vernissa (Vantaa) on the 26th from 11am to 5pm. There will also be a book fair in Vuotalo.
